Brief Guide to Zapier Automation

In this brief guide we’ll walk you through the most important things regarding our Zapier integration. We’re very excited because it allows you to automate your business processes and become a true power user.

Zapier members (free plan available) can create automations between different apps by using Triggers and Actions. Zaps are automations created using one Trigger and one Action. You can use Zaps to connect any two Zapier-supported apps to each other.

If it’s your first time using Zapier, we recommend you read their quick start guide.

Available Triggers & Actions

For our TinyReminder integration, two triggers are available: New Recipient and New Response (both for a certain request). You’ll be able to trigger actions in any other app when these events happen.

For actions, you’ll be able to Create Recipient for a certain request.

Zap Ideas for You

Here’s a number of ideas for you to use:

Later they’ll be available as templates. For your reference, here’s a full directory of 1000+ apps that support Zapier.

Setting the Due Date

When you create a new recipient using Zapier, you’ll need to set a due date. Here we’ll show you how to do this using a simple formula. Zapier allows you to use a timestamp when your Zap runs (approximately the same time as your trigger occurs). The placeholder for this is:

{{zap_meta_human_now}}

You can modify this placeholder with adjustments in days or hours:

{{zap_meta_human_now}} +12h {{zap_meta_human_now}} +5d

Something like 3 or 5 days would probably make the most sense — so that your client has time to fill in your request. Just type this formula into the “Due On” field in your Zap. Important: you need a space between the placeholder and the adjustment, or it will not work.

Human-readable dates like tomorrow or next friday are also recognized.

Ethical Side of Things

Zapier automation is very powerful, and we hope you won’t abuse this power. For example, TinyReminder is not the best tool to run surveys — because surveys are optional by nature. Please only send reminders to people who have a mutual interest in collaborating with you.

Want to Try It Out?

The integration is currently in private beta. If you’d like to test it, please create your accounts in TinyReminder and Zapier (if you haven’t yet), and email us at [email protected]. We’ll send you a personal invite via Zapier, and you’ll be able to create your own Zaps after accepting it.
